UniProtKB description: Ribosome-dependent ATPase that functions in cytoplasmic translation elongation (PubMed:29300771, PubMed:6456269, PubMed:7657623, PubMed:9705146, PubMed:36948349, PubMed:8599608). Required for the ATP-dependent release of deacylated tRNA from the ribosomal E-site during protein biosynthesis (PubMed:7657623, PubMed:9705146). Stimulates the eEF1A-dependent binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosomal A-site, which has reduced affinity for tRNA as long as the E-site is occupied (PubMed:7657623). Assists translation termination by stimulating the release of nascent protein from the ribosome by release factors (PubMed:36948349). In nutrient-replete conditions, occupies the space on the ribosome bound by GCN1 during amino acid starvation conditions, and therefore indirectly negatively regulates GCN2 kinase activity in replete conditions (PubMed:22888004).
