UniProtKB description: Component of the Dom34-Hbs1 complex, a complex that recognizes stalled ribosomes and triggers the No-Go Decay (NGD) pathway (PubMed:16554824, PubMed:17889667, PubMed:18180287, PubMed:19420139, PubMed:20947765, PubMed:21102444). In the Dom34-Hbs1 complex, DOM34 recognizes ribosomes stalled at the 3' end of an mRNA and engages stalled ribosomes by destabilizing mRNA in the mRNA channel (PubMed:16554824, PubMed:20947765). Following ribosome-binding, the Dom34-Hbs1 complex promotes the disassembly of stalled ribosomes, followed by degradation of damaged mRNAs as part of the NGD pathway (PubMed:20947765). The Dom34-Hbs1 complex is also involved in non-functional rRNA decay (PubMed:21102444).
