Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access at RCSB PDB
“Diversity and Inclusion” are organizational Core Values. We are called to integrate the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all aspects of the RCSB PDB community with empathy and self-awareness.
RCSB PDB works to recruit, retain, and develop a diverse and inclusive community of data scientists working for the public good. Our team members, based at Rutgers, UCSD, and UCSF, build our internal community through special events, communication, and a shared mission, vision, and core values. Professional development is well supported, taking care to accommodate life-work balance. Join our team: available positions are posted.
RCSB PDB is committed to promoting equitable and inclusive scholarship and teaching. Ongoing public community events involve programming with the Rutgers Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine, including a Weekly Research Seminar Series, twice-yearly, half-day Interdisciplinary Crash Courses, and a Science Communication in Biology and Medicine Winter Boot Camp for undergraduate and graduate students. Details and announcements are published online. Please contact us with suggestions for additional activities, training topics, or other inquiries.
In addition to mentoring students recruited from all RCSB PDB host institutions, the team also mentors undergraduates as part of the Research Intensive Summer Experience at Rutgers program. Students with strong computer science backgrounds coming from underrepresented, disadvantaged, non-traditional or first-generation college backgrounds or who attend schools with limited research opportunities are encouraged to apply to RISE for summer research internships at RCSB PDB.
Reaching communities through the freely accessible RCSB.org and PDB-101 websites represents our most effective means for supporting STEM workforce training and advancing the organization’s DEIA goals. Further developing and improving our resources is an ongoing activity. We are committed to providing resources and training to diverse users across the sciences, while covering a wide variety of exciting topics in the process.
